Semerit Strachan, M.D.Griot of Medicine
A physician for over 30 years, Dr. Semerit Strachan is the Director of Medicine and a Fellow at the Cultural Wellness Center. Throughout her career she has fought to create a space for the human spirit in the clinical encounter. She practices at the University of Minnesota as a Developmental – Behavioral Pediatrician, coaching children and their family members to use inner resources to heal and recover from illness.

Her fellowship explores ways of BEing in body that result in greater vitality. She believes that the body is neither a suitcase to be lugged around, barely tolerated, nor a cold, distant temple. Rather the body is a wise being – alive, intelligent, wise and constantly seeking harmony. She describes her work as the “Medicine of Reconciliation.” Part of her fellowship is about developing the leadership to create a viable and functional interface between the Medicine of Reconciliation and conventional medical practitioners.

Dr. Semerit received her M.D. from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine at New York University. She is on the faculty of the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute and is certified as an Intentional Creativity Coach.
